Dr. Marie-Laure S. Romney has been Appointed Vice President of Operations at NYP/Columbia

Dr. Romney will serve as a member of the senior management team, with responsibilities for the administration, efficient operations, quality and regulatory compliance of clinical departments including Clinical Laboratories, Radiology, Emergency Room, Cardiovascular Services, Interventional and Neurointerventional Radiology, Transplant, Radiation Oncology, Infusion Center, Dialysis, Respiratory Therapy and Rehabilitation Medicine, effective January 4, 2021.

Dr. Sallie Permar Appointed Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Weill Cornell Medicine and Pediatrician-in-Chief at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian Komansky Children’s Hospital

Effective December 1, Dr. Permar – a Physician-Scientist who focuses on the treatment and prevention of neonatal viral infections – will helm the pediatrics enterprise at Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Under her leadership, the department will continue to enhance its mission to provide exceptional patient care and medical education in pediatrics, and conduct cutting-edge research on diseases that affect newborns and children. Read more.

Medical Marvels: Carnival Over Cancer

Dr. Catherine Shu, a Medical Oncologist at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, helped save the life of Oswald Peterson who was diagnosed with stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer in both of his lungs as well as his spine. Oswald was treated with a new immunotherapy drug for metastatic lung cancer: pembrolizumab. Read more.

Dr. Virginia Pascual Leads Grant to Study Immune Responses in Children with COVID-19 and Receives Prestigious ACR Award

Dr. Virginia Pascual, the Drukier Director of the Gale and Ira Drukier Institute for Children’s Health at Weill Cornell Medicine, has been awarded a grant supplement from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) to lead a multi-institutional effort studying differences in immune responses in children infected with SARS-CoV-2. Read more.

Sabrina Diano Brings Brain Research Focus to Institute of Human Nutrition

Nutrition and Brain Researcher Sabrina Diano, PhD, discovered mechanisms by which mice fed a high-fat diet developed brain inflammation in just three days. Weill Cornell Medicine Investigators Receive Awards from Chan Zuckerberg Initiative

Five Weill Cornell Medicine investigators, including Dr. James Lo, Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology and of Pharmacology, and Dr. Dan Landau, Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Oncology, have received funding from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) for their research in inflammation and neurodegenerative disorders. Read more.

NYP LEAD Academy Begins Recruitment for the 2021-2022 Cohort 

LEAD (Leadership Education and Development for Physicians) Academy will select a small group of early to mid-career physicians demonstrating high potential as future leaders to engage in its training program. The 13-month program provides attendees with the highest-yield components of an MBA and MHA curriculum, with additional teaching tailored to individual interests, all led by nationally renowned educational institutions. Applications are due by December 18. Learn more.
