Project Name/Topic: Telemedicine and operational efficiency at the Daniel and Jane Och Spine Hospital

Dr. Chen’s capstone project focuses on telemedicine and operational efficiency at the Daniel and Jane Och Spine Hospital. Currently, given multiple departments with differences in scheduling, billing, and operations, the Spine Hospital functions as a unique umbrella organization, but with separate pathways for entry and frequent interdepartmental transfers of care. This project incorporates technology and operational efficiency to create an effective referral, navigation, and transfer system within the Spine Hospital, along with introducing telemedicine visits for triage, pre-op education, and post-operative follow-ups. The ultimate goal is to create seamless and efficient patient navigation in a complex, multidisciplinary system, and in doing so incorporate telemedicine and virtual visits to the Spine Hospital.
