With 154 accredited training programs and more than 1,900 trainees, New York-Presbyterian Hospital is one of the largest centers of graduate medical education in the country.  Trainee development and education have always been a top priority at NYPH.   Both NYPH and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) view Professionalism as a critical competency for all physicians.   As NYP's RESPECT credo emphasizes, we expect that all medical professionals will treat patients, colleagues, and staff with respect and dignity.  

Project Name:  Optimization and Standardization of the Professionalism Curriculum for NYP Trainees

Goal: To create a standardized curriculum for Professionalism for all trainees at NYP

Individual residencies and fellowships have created innovative but separate curricula in order to foster crucial Professionalism skills.  My project is aimed at learning from current best practices and then optimizing and standardizing a Professionalism Curriculum so that all trainees at NYPH have access to a consistent and uniform experience.   This unified curriculum will be shared through an e-learning platform and will allow trainees from all of our campuses to benefit from the combined expertise of our master educators.  These peer-reviewed modules will be assessed and updated regularly in order to keep our education in Professionalism as current as possible. The ultimate goal of the project is a rich, online curriculum that is constantly evolving and can serve as the basis for Professionalism education for trainees at our institution.
